General
Previously, laboratory power supplies were limited to the regulation of voltage and current. The EA-PS 6000 series also incorporates power regulation. Thus it is now possible to protect sensitive units, sub-units or components from destruction. Also the user is always informed about the amount of power being drawn by the load. The circuit concept is based upon the use of two regulating circuits to obtain lowest possible dissipation. The first stage employs a thyristor pre-regulator followed by a series regulator.
Meters
All three regulation factors V, I and W are displayed on separate analogue meters or as an option on 3½ digit LCD displays. All three instruments can be switched independently to indicate either the actual value or the preset value. The momentary operating mode is indicated by three LED's.
Overvoltage Protection (OVP)
The threshold voltage for the standard Overvoltage protection circuit (OVP) is also indicated on the voltmeter. All switching functions are carried out using push buttons. LED's incorporated in the switches show the selected function where necessary.
Controls
The output Voltage, Current and Power are set by means of 10-turn precision potentiometers. A 20-turn cermet trimmer is used to set the overvoltage protection threshold. In Stand-by operation all values can be preset without the output terminals being operational.
Remote Sense
The remote sense facility can be used to compensate for the voltage loss between the output terminals and the load. In this case the “SENSE“ input is connected to the load using a small cross section cable. The switch over to remote sense operations is automatic and the voltmeter indicates the sense voltage present on the sense line.
Pulse Operation
Loads which demand high pulsing currents can be supplied by the series EA-PS 6000 units in the operation mode “PULSE“ the unit can supply a pulse current up to 100% above the nominal value for the unit. The units ensure that the nominal value is not exceeded over a time period.
Remote Programming
Voltage and current can be set remotely as follows:
Standard: Control voltage 0...10V, Resistance 0...10kOhm, Options: Control current 4...20mA (Suffix “SI“), IEEE-Bus (Option “IEEE“ see EA-PSP 5212, EA-PSP 5512 and EA-PSP 5612).
Parallel and Series connection, Master/Slave Operation
Two or more units can be connected in series or parallel. In this case one unit will operate as the master unit controlling the others in slave operation.
Output Sockets
The “+“ and “=“ output sockets are floating so that either can be grounded as required. The earth socket is connected to the housing and the protective grounding connector. The technical specifications given are valid for one socket earthed.
Mains Input
Units up to 1 kWatt = 230V*, above 1 kW = 400V* 2-phase, above 3,2kW = 400V* 3-phase +N.
*)Other input voltages available on request
Option - Internal Resistance Regulation
The output power regulation can optionally be carried out by Internal Resistance Regulation (Suffix “RI“). The possible internal resistance range can be calculated by the following formula:
Construction
Up to 8U (44,5mm) the units will be delivered as 19" modules as standard. Optionally with case (Suffix “GH“). Above 10U the units will be delivered complete with case.
Ambient conditions
During operation, at full load or constant operation, the ambient temperature may lie between 0...45°C. The storage temperature should lie between -40°C and +70°C. The relative humidity should not exceed 90% non-condensing.
Test Voltages
The units are tested at the following voltages:
Transformer primary to Chassis: 1.500V AC
Transformer primary to secondary: 3.000V AC
Transformer secondary to Chassis: 500V AC
